Tiktok got Clocked but Vine has Regrown

We are sure everyone is aware of the recent Tiktok scandal, but if you’re not, let us inform you. The immensely popular social media app, TikTok, is being investigated by the US government. The app, which is owned by a Beijing-based parent company, is being accused of stealing information from users, and is being called a national security threat. On March 13, the House of Representatives passed a measure that says TikTok can either be sold to an American company, or will be banned in the United States. If this bill gets passed, there is a chance that United States residents will never get to use TikTok again!

But not to fear, because when one door closes, another one opens! Believe it or not, an even better replacement for TikTok will soon become available… for the second time! That's right, Vine is coming back!

Originally launched in 2013, Vine took the world by storm! Vine had a simple concept, where users were able to create short videos up to 6 seconds and share them for the world to see. There are many iconic memes that came from Vine; it was a fun and unproblematic app. However, good things don’t last forever. In January of 2017, Vine was taken down, leaving us with only a memory of what once was.

But alas! After everyone had all but given up hope of a Vine reboot, founder Dom Hofmann shocked us all when on March 20, he announced that Vine will be making its return on April 1st, 2024. During his announcement, Hofmann said, “With all the drama with Tiktok, I knew it was time. The problem with apps like TikTok is that they are too complicated. Vine keeps it simple. The original is always better.”

Naturally, the internet has been blowing up over this unexpected information. On opinion sharing social media platform X, users have taken the time to share their various mixed reviews. User @samanthaverlaque stated, “I CANNOT WAIT OMGGGGG”, and user @lilaonori said, “this is the best news since they added Midas back into Fortnite”.

Others don’t have such positive views on the situation, with user @nmillz stating, “vine walked so tiktok could run.”, and user @northwest adding, “who asked for this? #wewanttiktok”.

Regardless of what the future has in store, we are excited to uncover the next chapter in Vine’s story, even though we may have lost TikTok on the way.
