Girls! You should be peeling your skin off daily for clear beautiful skin!

Trends have always been a large part of society, whether it's an app, place, topic or a specific thing that is trending. Trends can be good or bad, but one of the main issues with trends comes when a trend is built off misinformation. Being a girl comes with a lot of challenges which many people are uninformed about

One of the many things that women have to do, which is usually hidden away from the general public due to discomfort, is hiding skin peeling and/or shedding. Although this is a perfectly normal part of a woman’s life, it is usually taught from a young age that it is better to be hidden away to not make others uncomfortable. It is finally time we take a stand against unjust rules and discrimination over something so ordinary and mundane.

One of the main reasons why it isn’t talked about as much is because people are typically uninformed, which is easily fixed with today's research. Dermatologists suggest that the human body naturally sheds 30-40 thousand cells per minute, but due to hormonal differences a woman’s skin renews at a faster rate—leading to a more noticeable peeling process.

This process is officially called “epidermal cycling” but is more commonly known as “skin peeling”, and women must go through this process 1-2 times a week. This will naturally happen, although some women can choose to speed up the process, whether it’s by using face masks or exfoliation. Ultimately, however, women don’t have a choice in the matter and the peeling will happen.

Adding to the ongoing discrimination, is the beauty industry, by choosing to market off things such as peel-off masks to keep up this facade instead of admitting that it’s for a woman’s unstoppable cycle. These face-masks are made for women to manage their ongoing epidermal renewal, not just for a “fun spa day”.

A study by the International Skincare Institute found that 72% of women experience a full face peel every week, although nearly 85% of women deny that this process is even happening at all! Of course, this process can vary and it’s entirely possible that a woman can be born without this, although it’s not common. Although not enough research has been done, it is believed that men do not have to go through this process due to hormonal differences and simply thicker skin, allowing their skin to shed at a much slower rate.

Skin peeling is nothing to be ashamed of, in fact, this has been going on for thousands of years. A little fun fact is that historians believe that Egyptian Queens used fermented milk and fruit acids to accelerate this process, and this method has passed down for centuries although it’s rarely used nowadays due to new techniques.

All of this is to say that this process has been going on for centuries, and just because women have decided to stop speaking about it doesn’t mean that it’s going away anytime soon or that it should be ignored.

Water Jugs

A new hydration trend is rising. Many people are starting to carry gallon water jugs as a personal addition to their daily wear. The rising trend of water jugs is raising awareness of dehydration all over the world. Many popular celebrities and online influencers are joining in on this worldwide phenomenon.

Dakota Johnson and Kendall Jenner have been seen carrying the trending jugs on many occasions. This gallon water bottle when carried is equal to 8 pounds, so now you can have a workout while you are walking! Studies have shown that people who use gallons of water are shown to be significantly more attractive and athletic. One study in particular by the CDC (The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) has found that 80% of those who find themselves to be unathletic, instantly were able to run 1 mile in under 10 minutes after joining in on the hydration.

Many people don’t know the importance of drinking water, the average person is meant to drink half their body weight in ounces. Water contributes to increased levels of energy, improved kidney function, and helps increase physical abilities.Gallon jugs also help decrease the amount of people that are dehydrated. In trying to stay with the trends, people indirectly are drinking more water. The National Library of Medicine has a statistic that about 75% of the population is dehydrated!

These are some examples of trends that have taken place (now and hundreds of years ago), and it's time to finally end some trends… and continue with others!
