Senior Athlete Spotlight: Ethan Nguyen

Ethan Nguyen is a senior on the Valencia High School Varsity volleyball team and has been a part of the program for three years. He has played for Legacy Volleyball Club and has competed in multiple high ranking tournaments with both teams. This year, he hopes to win the League championship and go far in the CIF playoffs. The team played in their first league game of the season on February 27, defeating Hart High School with a score of 3-0. 

How long have you played volleyball, and what inspired you to start?

“I have been playing volleyball for three years and my mom and my friend, Jarek, inspired me to start playing.”

 Is there someone that you look up to within the sport?

“Micah Christenson on Team USA because he’s a great player and he enjoys the sport he plays which I think is very important.” 

What has your favorite moment/achievement been in your athletic career?

“Winning a tournament with my Legacy 18 Elite Team last year. We started off the tournament a little rough but then won eight straight games to eventually win the tournament and it was a great feeling.”

What is the most challenging part of playing volleyball?

“The most challenging part about playing volleyball is staying consistent from game to game especially after losses.”

What will you miss the most about this sport when you graduate?

“I will miss my coaches, my teammates, and being able to play in front of a good home crowd.”

What subject interests you the most, and why.

“English mainly because I enjoyed Mr. Cuny’s class so much that I just enjoyed the subject throughout the rest of high school.”

 Who is the most inspirational person in your life?

“My parents are the most inspirational people in my life because they’ve been through a lot to get to where they are now.”

What are your plans after high school?

“My plans are to go to a 4-year university and hopefully get a good job. I want to major in Business Marketing.

What is one place you really want to travel to, and why do you want to go there?

“One place I would really love to travel to would be Vietnam because that’s where my dad is from.

What are some songs on your game day playlist?

“I listen to jazz music because I like to listen to it when I study because it helps me focus so it translates to before the game and makes me calm and I play better.”
