Most Entertaining Winter Olympic Sports

This will be a comprehensive ranking of the most entertaining Winter Olympic sports to watch during this cool winter season, in my opinion. My opinions are completely unbiased because I have never participated in any of these sports in my life, so let's start with number 10.

10. Starting in last place will have to speed skating. This sport is impressive because the ability to move on ice that can move under your feet is challenging. Like I believe ice skating is hard. But speed skating is essentially hockey without anything interesting happening. Most participants wear skin-tight suits (which I know is probably for wind dexterity but still) which no one enjoys looking at for long periods.

9. In ninth place, we have snowboarding. This sport is very difficult and interesting to watch, but all I think of while watching is ice skateboarding. You just watch them go down a hill which you can only watch so many times before getting tired of it.

8. In eighth place we have Ice Hockey. I know this will not be a popular opinion and I enjoy hockey boys as much as anyone else. I can acknowledge the sport itself is relatively entertaining but  results in too many fights. They end up stopping the game repeatedly because they just start to beat each other up. Also, if you don't know the rules it's a pretty hard game to follow. I am in no way saying this sport is easy, it is extremely difficult and takes a lot of talent but as far as entertaining to watch, I’d have to put this one at eight.

7. In seventh place I would have to place the biathlon. The combination of cross-country skiing and shooting a rifle is pretty interesting to watch. The difficulty of being cold as ice and skiing as fast as possible before abruptly stopping and shooting a faraway target without shaking or moving, I can’t imagine. I'm not the biggest fan of cross-country skiing because it is just fast skiing(no, it’s more like distance running on skis) and not particularly interesting but I think this added challenge makes an interesting combination

6. In sixth place we have Skeleton. Watching this can only be described as ice boogie boarding. They start like a skateboarder would  running with the sled near their feet before jumping on head first while careening down an ice path. I'm not sure who would even come up with an idea like that but practicing had to be difficult. This is a very dangerous sport seeing as the only way they stop is by running into a foam mat at the end of the track..

5. Now in the top five the decisions got a little harder, so in fifth place we have Nordic combined. I don’t understand why but watching people jump from thousands of feet in the air and almost fly while staying calm and completely still is so cool. It looks impossible, how can you jump that far, put that much stress on your bones, and not completely crumble? It's pretty ridiculous.

4. In fourth place we have bobsledding. Watching people shove themselves in what looks like a metal tube careening down an ice track with seemingly no control is really funny. Like you just trust these pringles cans to bring you safely to the end and stop when you pull a lever. I couldn't imagine having that much trust. And I don't understand how they don't just constantly fly off the track, also they are short races so it doesn't take a whole lot of attention.

3. In third place there’s freestyle skiing. I find this cool because people can be more creative with their tricks and I just have a harder time getting bored. The high jumps and flips are always really impressive and this version of skiing as a whole is immensely entertaining.

2. In second place, I would have to do figure skating. Figure skating is so beautiful to watch. They tell a story with their movements and it’s breathtaking. Especially partners watching how they work together on the ice and the amount of trust and reliance they have on each other is amazing. Figure skating is also ridiculously difficult which just ups their impressiveness because of how easy they make it look.

1. This placement will seem “controversial” to some people, but for our number one top Winter Olympic Sport in my completely (unbiased) honest opinion would have to go to ……….. Curling. I know it may seem dumb but watching full-sized people frantically sweeping a broom across ice will never not entertain me. I don’t know what the purpose is at the end of the day, but I know I will always enjoy watching it. Grown adults distressingly sweep brooms across the ice to move the little stones as close to the center as possible, I don’t know how that can’t entertain someone. It is incredibly silly and pointless and I love it everytime.
