As of Friday, March 14, AP Government and Psychology teacher Douglas Broers has officially announced his decision to pause his teaching career in order to fulfill his lifelong dream of starring in a One Man rendition of the hit musical Hamilton, by Lin Manuel Miranda. The show will be on Broadway starting July 1st, until November 1st.

In preparation, Doug will be abruptly leaving Valencia High School after spring break to attend an intense Musical Theater convention in Basingstoke, England, where he will spend the next 6 weeks working 7 days a week, 12 hours a day training for his many roles. To maintain ideal physical condition, Doug will be following a strict diet consisting of only blended greens and canned meats. Follow along on his journey through his Instagram @dailydoug where he will be posting frequent GRWM and “What I Eat in a Day” videos!

Students and staff will be glad to hear that they can catch a glimpse of this production at a discounted price, using code D0UG123, courtesy of Doug himself! The support from his family at Valencia High School is what gave Doug the confidence to take this leap and follow his dreams. One anonymous student says, “He has taught me so much about following my heart, it’s about time he followed his! We are all supporting you from back home and are so excited to watch you shine on the stage Doug!!” It’s clear to us all that Doug has touched the lives of countless students at Valencia and will surely do the same for people all around the country that come watch his show.

For Doug’s take on Hamilton he will be playing all of the roles, making this the first ever one man show to premiere on Broadway. He has spent months hand-making and designing each individual piece of the set. On top of that, he has decided to take on the costumes as well, putting his minor in sewing to good use. The show will include multiple quick changes as he switches between his many, many roles. He has been gifted a top notch, state of the art, voice modifier by NASA in order to ensure he captures the aura of each role to perfection.

No need to be alarmed, as the beloved Doug will be returning to Valencia to resume his teaching career at the start of 2026. Additionally, he will be offering a new zero period class called, “AP Doug Do’s and Don'ts” where they dissect and analyze his show and each performance. Make sure you sign up for this class soon because we suspect the waitlist will fill up rapidly. Students wishing to offer support to Doug can send letters to his PO box. Don’t forget to follow his Instagram to stay tuned for further updates regarding the show!
