Athlete Spotlight: Jayboe Wilson

Jayboe is a senior on the Valencia High School football team. He has been a member of the team since his sophomore year.

  1. How long have you played this sport, and what inspired you to start?

“I’ve been playing football since I was 6. What inspired me to start was making it to the NFL so I can give back and provide for my family.”

  1. What position do you play, and why do you enjoy it?

“I play corner/defensive back, I enjoy it because I am putting these receivers in seat belts, and I like to hit people. [It is a] very physical position.”

  1. What lessons has playing this sport taught you?

“Football is a lot like life, it taught me to be mature, a leader, and it taught me to tough it out through hard times.”

  1. Have you had any setbacks in your athletic career? How did you overcome them and what did you learn from them?

“I had a lot of people that told me I couldn’t do it, and I also have a lot of injuries. I overcame this by staying motivated, and trusting in myself and my skills, and for injuries I just need to workout more and gain more weight to help me out.”

  1. Are you planning to continue this sport in the future?

“I WILL be continuing this sport in the future.”

  1. Is there someone that you look up to within the sport?

“I look up to my older brother and my teammates.”

  1. What is one book/movie you think everyone should read/watch?

“My favorite movie is Friday and I recommend everyone to watch it.”

  1. Who is the most inspirational person in your life (or someone who inspires you).

“My mother, she has been through so much and just inspires me knowing how strong of a woman she is.”

  1. What are your plans after high school?

“My plans after high school is to go to college and play football and then go to the NFL.”

  1. Who is a fictional character that you relate to a lot?

“I relate to SPONGEBOB.”
