Athlete Spotlight: Brooke Davis
Brooke Davis is the Valencia High School competition cheer team’s captain and has been the sideline team’s captain for three years. She has been a part of the school’s cheer program as a whole since her freshman year. The school’s cheer competition team had their first competition on November 11 where they earned a bid to the UCA High School National Cheerleading Competition, held in February.
How long have you done this sport, and what inspired you to start?
“I’ve done cheer since I was in 5th grade and I started doing cheer because one of my friends did it and I decided to do it too.”
What position do you do in stunting, and why do you enjoy it?
“I’m a backspot because I’ve just always been a backspot.”
What was it like competing with your team for the first time?
“I thought it was really fun but it was also kind of nerve wracking because a lot of the girls on the team hadn’t competed before so it was their first time.”
Are you planning to continue this sport in the future?
“I’m not planning on doing it in the near future but maybe further down the road.”
What is the greatest thing you have learned from this sport?
“Probably teamwork and working with other people.”
How is being the competition captain different from being on the sideline?
“I would say it’s different because motivating the team for competitions compared to calling sideline cheers and coming up with stunts for that.”
Is there any team or athlete you look up to/Do you have a ‘dream team’?
“If I had a dream team I would honestly just want to be on any college team.”

What is one T.V. show you think everyone should watch?
“Cheer, the show about the Navarro cheer team.”
How do you typically spend your free time?
“Doing homework and cheer. That’s pretty much it.”
What are your plans after high school?
“I’m going to a 4 year university and majoring in nursing.”
Who is your favorite music artist? What’s your favorite genre?
“Taylor Swift or Morgan Wallen.”
