2023 Halloween Costume Predictions

This year has yielded a lot of significant pop culture moments. From the Barbie movie to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, costume options are limitless.

The significant cultural impact of Barbie is undoubtable. This Halloween, we can expect a Barbie blowout so big that pink may become a new Halloween color along with orange and black. One of the big appeals of Barbie is the versatility that it offers. The costume is recognizable, no matter how unique it is. Additionally, the movie was very touching and impactful to a lot of people, which may inspire those otherwise apathetic to Halloween to dress up in honor of the bright pink phenomenon. Costumes can range from an elaborate ensemble to a simple pink outfit, making it extra accessible and affordable. From Stereotypical Barbie to Weird Barbie, “You can be anything.”

On the flip side, we are also likely to see a lot of Mojo Dojo Kens, Beach Kens, and other types of Kens too. Whether it is paired with a Barbie or it’s just Ken, this costume will not fail to shine. Both Barbie and Ken’s rollerblading and cowfolk costumes will likely top the list in their respective fields.

Wednesday Addams will also be a hot option for costumes this year. The show Wednesday came out in November of last year, meaning there wasn’t a chance last Halloween for kids to show off their dark side. In stark contrast to the pastels and neons of Barbie, Wednesday costumes would likely be all-black outfits. Similar to Barbie, there is a large variety of simple costume options. They could be as specific as the Nevermore uniform or her Rave’N Dance dress, or as basic as a casual black outfit.

After the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie back in April, Mario, Luigi, Bowser, and Princess Peach are all expected to make an appearance, both as individual and group costumes. We may see a large number of families using this as an opportunity to dress up together.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour was so groundbreaking that it literally caused an earthquake. With ten eras to choose from, these costumes range from iconic to even more iconic. Taylor Swift has remained relevant across generations, so we can expect to see Swifties of all ages dressed as the coveted singer.

Spider-people of all varieties are also hitting shelves. With the continued popularity of superheroes renewed by Spiderman: Across the Spiderverse, Gwen Stacy, Miles Morales, and other Spiders can be expected. One of the huge appeals of this costume is that it could be anyone under the mask, and with infinite alternate realities of Spider-people, everyone can feel seen.

Aside from the pop-culture-based costumes, we can also expect some trusty fan favorites to make their reappearance. Witches, vampires, ghosts, and cats are classics. Year after year, they top the charts for the most popular costumes. As basic as they are, their simplicity allows people to reuse costumes or be more subtle, which is something that a lot of people are looking for.
